About me
I have fun helping people make sense of complicated subjects. I see them as a kind of mental puzzle, and at the same time, maybe I can do some good.
That’s why I enjoy leading communicators, whether it’s in a newsroom or with a content team. I’ve had the chance to do that in places like Atlanta, Orlando, Tulsa, and Eau Claire. Along the way, I’ve managed large teams, developed storytellers and leaders, and guided people through crises. I also enjoy launching new products and platforms, as well as transforming traditional operations for a digital and multiplatform world.
But at heart, I’m still an editor and storyteller.
I thrive on finding the ideas buried underneath all the information. I like asking people questions, finding out what makes them interesting, and figuring out how to make their story better. It’s like taking a prism and rotating it until you see colors that weren’t obvious before. That’s why taking a complicated subject and making it understandable works for me: it lets me show an audience why they should care.
I believe good writing is clear rather than showy, and good editing makes the writer better rather than merely different.
My work increasingly sits at the intersection of communication, technology, and audience strategy. I use analytics to guide editorial decisions and grow audiences, experiment with AI and emerging tools to improve workflows, and work to keep one principle at the center of all of it: technology can make communication faster and more powerful, but it cannot replace human judgment.
I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in Strategic Communication and Digital Strategy at the University of Oklahoma, building on my skills and experience. Benjamin Franklin once wrote, “The doors of wisdom are never shut.” So who am I to argue with the most interesting Founding Father of all time?
I also believe great work rarely happens by accident. It comes from talented people who understand the mission, know what is expected of them, have permission to try new things, and receive the coaching and support they need to succeed.
Right now, this site is a collection of the work and ideas that show how I think. And like me, it will keep evolving into something better.
At least, that’s the plan.
