About me

I enjoy helping people tell stronger stories, make sense of complicated issues, and become the best versions of themselves. Yes, I borrowed that last phrase from Ted Lasso, but the philosophy has guided my leadership for years.

At heart, I'm an editor, storyteller, and communications strategist. For more than 25 years, I've helped organizations connect with audiences, guided teams through challenging decisions, and worked with talented people to turn good ideas into meaningful work. My career includes newsroom leadership positions in Orlando, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Tulsa, and beautiful Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

My experience spans writing and editing, strategic communication, audience research, digital development, crisis communication, and emerging technology. I've led teams of more than 60 professionals, developed award-winning projects, and helped organizations adapt to changing audiences and platforms. Throughout that work, I've learned that compelling stories begin with curiosity, thoughtful questions, and a willingness to challenge assumptions.

Some of my proudest moments come when I hear colleagues asking one another the questions I've encouraged throughout my career: What matters here? How do we know? Why should someone care? Those conversations tell me something important. People aren't simply following directions. They're developing the judgment and confidence to make good decisions themselves. That's the kind of environment I work to create through collaboration, coaching, honest feedback, and trust.

My education reflects a similar mix of curiosity and practical experience. I studied journalism and history at California State University, Fresno, and earned a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. Today, I'm pursuing a master's degree in Strategic Communication and Digital Strategy at the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

That last chapter began during recruiting visits to OU. I went looking for reporters and producers, but somehow, I was the one who got recruited.

I'm now looking for opportunities to bring my experience in communication, leadership, and storytelling to organizations that value curiosity, clear thinking, thoughtful experimentation, and helping people do their best work.

This is a collection of the work and ideas that show how I think. And like me, it will keep evolving into something better. At least, that’s the plan.
